Wellington Point fishing lessons will happen at the foreshore this spring and summer. The sessions are set for 1 November and 5 December at Wellington Point Recreation Reserve. They are run by 2 Bent Rods, a family business that began in 2004.
Hands-on teaching at the reserve
The lessons are built for beginners, families and complete newcomers. 2 Bent Rods says its instructors keep the session relaxed and hands-on. They supply the fishing gear, bait and tackle. Participants only need to bring a hat, a drink and a sense of adventure.
The program covers more than casting. Learners may pump yabbies, catch live bait with a bait net, and learn essential knots. They also pick up tips on bait choice, bait presentation and casting technique. The sessions are designed so everyone can get involved.
From beach day to community program
2 Bent Rods says the business started after Samantha and Jeremy Beckmann took their children fishing and saw how many local kids had not seen a yabby or held a fish. From there, they built programs aimed at making fishing fun, educational and accessible.
That approach still shapes the business today. The company offers fishing lessons, birthday parties, excursions, incursions, school sports and fishing event management. It also runs the Aussie Junior Fishing Classic, which it describes as a kids-only fishing competition.
November and December dates
The November session runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. The December session runs from 4pm to 7pm. Both events will be held at Wellington Point Recreation Reserve.
Bookings are essential, and places are limited. 2 Bent Rods says tickets are required for all attendees. It also says Companion Cards are accepted, and staff hold Blue Cards for working with children.
If a session is cancelled or postponed because of bad weather, the organisers will notify bookers by text and email. They say the notice will usually come the night before or on the morning of the class. Refunds are available up to one day before the event, according to the listing.
