Ormiston’s Redlands Art School is giving young artists the chance to develop their skills in painting, drawing and illustration, with its Term Four classes leading towards an annual student exhibition in November.
The family-run school, based at 3/30 Shore Street West, offers after-school and Saturday classes for children and teenagers across the Redlands. Its nine-week Term Four programme began in early October, with students working across different art forms according to their age and interests.
The school has also announced that its annual Student Art Show will take place on Sunday, 15 November, from 10:00 a.m. The event will provide an opportunity to see work created by young artists, although the school has yet to publish a full exhibition programme.
Different classes for different interests
Redlands Art School offers two main programmes, All Arts and Drawing Lab, with classes designed for different ages and levels of experience.
All Arts introduces students to a variety of materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, clay, collage, illustration and mixed media. The programme allows children to explore different creative approaches rather than concentrate on one art form.
The Saturday Juniors class caters to children aged seven and older, while All Arts Primary is designed for students aged eight to 12. The primary sessions run for 90 minutes and combine practical instruction with projects that change from term to term.
Older students can take part in All Arts classes for those aged 12 and above. These sessions offer greater scope for independent projects, with participants encouraged to develop ideas and make decisions about the work they produce.
Anime and illustration have their own place
For children who prefer sketching and character design, the school’s Drawing Lab programme offers a more focused alternative to general art classes.
Led by artist and tutor Tim Davidson, Drawing Lab covers different approaches to illustration, including traditional drawing and character development. Students interested in anime can also attend the school’s Anime Masterclass, which concentrates on the drawing techniques used to create characters and original designs.
The school advertised anime sessions on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in its early October notices. The classes are aimed at students older than 10, and families are encouraged to confirm available places before enrolling.
The variety of programmes gives families in Ormiston, Wellington Point, Cleveland and surrounding suburbs options for children whose interests range from painting and craft to comics and digital-style illustration.
A November showcase for student work
The school’s annual exhibition adds a public element to its Term Four activities, providing a setting in which students can share their artwork beyond the regular classroom.
Redlands Art School announced the upcoming show on 27 October, following an earlier notice that placed the exhibition in the seventh week of term. The November event follows the school’s 2025 student exhibition, which featured artwork, live music and contributions from teenage students helping with activities.
Details of the 2026 exhibition’s closing time, admission arrangements and full programme had not been established in the October notices reviewed for this article. Families interested in attending should check directly with the school for further announcements.

A local art school with more than 20 years of history
Redlands Art School traces its origins to 2003, when artist Tania Davidson established the business under the name Tania’s Arthouse. She now runs the school alongside fellow artist Tim Davidson.
The independent studio operates from Shore Street West in Ormiston and provides classes for school-aged students, alongside holiday workshops and creative programmes for schools.
For parents considering an activity outside sport and other after-school commitments, the programme offers a local option centred on practical art-making. Families can enquire about suitable age groups, remaining Term Four places and lesson costs through the school’s booking channels.
