Wellington Point Community Invited to Sing for a Cause at Redlands College

Wellington Point residents are being invited to join a community choir at Redlands College, where an evening of singing will also introduce participants to the work of Joy Divine, a charitable organisation supporting vulnerable communities in Kenya.

The event, called Choir for a Cause, is scheduled for Saturday, 31 October 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the College Heart at Redlands College on Anson Road. It is open to anyone interested in joining, including people who have never sung in a choir.

Rather than limiting participation to experienced performers, the college has promoted the evening as an opportunity for people to come together through music. Its invitation makes clear that enthusiasm matters more than singing ability, with even those who usually sing only at home encouraged to take part.

An evening where everyone can join in

Community singing is at the centre of the event, giving Wellington Point residents an opportunity to enjoy music without the expectations that often come with a formal choir or concert performance.

The gathering is intended to bring people together for a shared activity while introducing them to a charitable organisation working beyond Australia. For residents who enjoy singing but have never joined an organised group, the invitation offers an accessible starting point.

The college has encouraged participants to bring friends, making the occasion suitable for people attending together rather than as individual performers. No previous choral experience is specified in the announcement.

Tea and light refreshments are expected to be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottles.

Local voices connect with a cause in Kenya

Beyond the singing, the evening will introduce participants to Joy Divine, an organisation working with vulnerable children and families in Kenya.

Based in Nairobi, Joy Divine operates community food and support programmes intended to help people facing poverty and food insecurity. Its activities include preparing and distributing meals, supplying fresh vegetables, supporting children’s education and assisting families during emergencies.

The organisation traces its beginnings to 1999, when Pastor Mary Njoki began caring for vulnerable children. Its work has since expanded to include food assistance, educational opportunities and community support initiatives.

Joy Divine also operates a kitchen and foodbank, with programmes that include food distribution and practical assistance for people living in disadvantaged communities.

For those attending Choir for a Cause, the evening provides an opportunity to learn about these activities and the circumstances of families the organisation seeks to assist.

Although the event is associated with a charitable cause, Redlands College’s published invitation does not specify an admission charge, donation requirement or fundraising target.

A community invitation beyond the classroom

Redlands College is a Prep to Year 12 Christian school in Wellington Point, with a performance music programme that includes vocal tuition and choral ensembles.

Hosting Choir for a Cause at the College Heart extends the use of the school campus beyond regular classroom activities and creates an opportunity for residents to take part in a shared musical gathering.

The community invitation also allows people who may not otherwise have a connection with the college to visit the campus and participate in an organised local activity.

The event is not presented as a conventional ticketed concert. Instead, the college is inviting attendees to join in the singing and learn about Joy Divine’s work.

How to take part

Choir for a Cause is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, 31 October, at the College Heart, Redlands College, 38 Anson Road, Wellington Point.

People planning to attend have been asked to select ‘Going’ on the event’s Facebook page to indicate their attendance. The college’s announcement does not specify whether an additional booking or payment is required.

Residents can find the event invitation through the Redlands College announcement, which provides a link to the Facebook event.

For anyone curious about community singing, the invitation offers a chance to participate without having to audition, join an established choir or commit to regular rehearsals.
